    Default Server Header Checking 301 Redirect issues

    Hi all,

    I did a 301 redirect from my old domain to my new one through GoDaddy about 1.5 months ago. When I use the server header checkers, they always give me Status 200 ok FIRST, and then return a Status 301 when I check again immediately after. Has anyone ever encountered this problem?

    The reason I asked is because none of my PR and links are passing from the old to the new domain. I called GoDaddy and they insist that it is indeed a 301 redirect. So the fact the checker returns a status 200 first, is this affecting the passing of PR and links?

    Also, my DNS setup for the old domain is:

    A-Record @ -> server IP
    CName www -> @

    Will this affect the passing of links from the old to the new domain if all my old links were pointing to the www version of my old domain?

    Thank you very much!!

    How did you do the redirect, specifically?

    if godaddy support said it is a 301 redirect, then most likely it is (unless you were talking to a noob who was playing smart ).

    you did the change 1.5 months ago and since then, there has been no toolbar PR update so you wont see any PR change on the new domain yet. wait till the next PR update and you might find some PR on your new domain.

    btw, i would also like to know how did u do the redirect

    I recall perhaps 3 years ago (?) though where a server misconfiguration or something at GoDaddy hosting turned all their 301s into 302s so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

    you are right, anything possible. and there are new tech support people out there as well who would probably not have any idea of what a 301 is but would play smart and try to push off the client saying it is.
