I recommend all beginners to read Search Engine New's SEO guide (its a paid one but if any beginners need it, they can ask me for that), thats is what I did.
The SE guide published by Search Engine News are simple to understand, which is of prime important for beginners.

Additionally, if you are visiting a page that Google has not yet spidered, but they have spidered the root domain of the site, then they will guess a PageRank based on the distance from the root of the site to your current position. This is only a guess and has no bearing on ranking. Once Google spiders the page they will assign an actual PageRank to it. This guessing behavior is the reason why some Geocities pages sometimes seem to have high PageRanks, the fact is they've simply not been spidered yet.

What is wrong with that, kichus? Have you never observed this thing, or is it more fundamental? I must say that it sure looks like Google has - at times - shown inflated PR on pages belonging to an established domain without really looking at the inbound links pointing to that exact page.
That said: things may have changed again, and also this phenomenon might be limited to some specific domains, not all.
Not been spidered and assigning a guessed toolbar pR? That would not be digesting to a newbie and even for experienced easily. And any of live examples are not provided there.
I am not sure why it's given such importance and I doubt we still find that kind of Guessed Pagerank anymore..if someone asked for reference.
