Default Press Release - Effective?

I read so much about duplicate content and how it affects SEO. But I notice that normally press releases aren't cheap but it is the same article when you do a press release. The sheer number of same article appearing in the various press release sites, are they decreasing the effectiveness of the SEO that it can bring to the site? Or can I say that press release aren't a good way to improve SEO?

The thing what you have to remember is you will not get penalised for duplicate content from a PR because your not going to (or shouldn't) have the article on your actual site.

Same principal as article marketing.

Are they good for SEO? yes and not just SEO but for branding and getting your sites name and service/product "out there".

The thing with PR is if they are written well, they have the potential to make it onto news feed sites such as Google News, Yahoo! News.

It's a well known fact that a lot of tech journalists use news feeds such as Google to stay on top of the game so if your PR appears in one of them, you could be getting a call very soon from the NY Times.

It may seem far fetched but the reality is very real. Not to mention people who blog about it.

Also it's good for back link purposes.

You mentioned about the amount of PR sites with the same article. Well that's very simple to over come.

Don't release the same PR to all sites. I'd say two maximum then release another one but keeping the core content (the thing your trying to promote).

I agree with KP.

Another thing why people use PR is it keeps on providing fresh content to SE, which makes SE think that you are constantly working on your website and its not outdated.

A good portion of my backlinks for one of my sites are from people that found the PR's I did and blogged about it. I'll defend PR's tooth and nail, they are an excellent resource.

If you're not trying to get in front of the press, what's the real difference between an article and a press release?

Wonder if you can explain what are the difference in content delivery between articles and press releases. I can't really distinguish them.

My question was more of a point. There isn't much of a difference at all. Some PR sites do get Google News listing, but there are far more article sites, which start to devalue the point of good content because G knows that it isn't good at all.

Press releases are still a great way to get exposure to your site on the web. Many sites that are considered authoritative in the eyes of the SEs will pick up the press releases which then gives your site some good links from authoritative sites.

By am I right to say that the effects won't last as new press releases will be out and take over the space of the old press releases? For short time, it may be good, but long term effects remain unclear.
