I find it hard to agree with some of them you have mentioned.

META Keywords for a start. You just need to look around our SEO Beginners section to know they are useless.

PHP? I wouldn't say that has any impact on SEO at all. It's not a requirement, it's a choice made by the user to have their site built in.

Matt Cutts says "There's also a third tag, to add keywords, or search terms, but Cutts says Google doesn't put much weight in its rankings on that one."

Which means it must place SOME weight on it all be it negligible!!

There are many factors in the ranking of pages in Google the two main factors being content and links, but for what it takes to put a nice description tag which will invariably will be seen in the SERPS, and acts as a good tool to entice someone to click on your site as opposed to someone else's, i think is just plain lazy.

Slightly agree with you and thanks for your comment.

Well I guess I am disagreeing with what Matt says about META Keywords. They are pointless. Plain and simple.

Makes me laugh when people always quote Matt Cutts and follow everything he says to a T.

I'm not disputing that a good, creative description won't increase CTR. I never mentioned anything about the description.

Google seems to take a snippet of text that is most relevant to the keyword or phrase searched, so if you have a site with no desctiption tag google could take a menu and list that in the snippet if it deems this peice more relevant to the searched term. Why risk this!!!

which example below looks best?

Home.co.uk: Property for Sale in Maidstone
A property search dedicated to finding all Homes for Sale in Maidstone, including all types of houses for sale.
www.home.co.uk/search/property.htm?location=maidstone - 30k - Cached - Similar pages
(this site has a description)

or

House to rent Maidstone : Houses offers in Maidstone
House in Maidstone, House for rent in Maidstone / House Maidstone / Maidstone house Looking for a house to rent in Maidstone? Then you are on right. ...
www.starflats.co.uk/house-in-Maidstone.37.3.1.0.html - Similar pages
(this site has no description)

Which one looks nicer and more appealing????

By the way the first one is "pos1" in Google for "house maidstone" and has both description and keywords and the second one "pos6" and has no description or keywords.

The snippet on the second one has been taken from a peice of text in an ad at the bottom of the page, where the first one from the meta description...

What the hell are you talking about?

Read what I said. I never disputed the description tag.

I'm arguing the point of the META Keywords NOT the META Description.

Trixie,

I am always open for a debate and if you feel what I have said or am saying is wrong then feel free to fire back.

If you or anyone else can find flaws in my argument and show me cold hard facts then I would be happy to reconsider my opinions and admit I was wrong.
